Education Programs

"Litter Trashes Everyone" Puppet Show
PalmettoPride, along with the Columbia Marionette Theatre, present "Litter Trashes Everyone,"  a twenty minute educational piece featuring marionettes and hand puppets that convey the message that every citizen has a responsibility to help keep South Carolina beautiful. The free puppet show is available to elementary schools in South Carolina and targets children in grades K-4. The show has reached over 510,725 of South Carolina's children.

PalmettoPride Playwriting Competition
We are looking for original full-length, anti-litter themed plays written by South Carolina middle and high school students for young audiences.  One first place prize of $500 and 45 second place prizes of $100 will be awarded.  All prizes will be awarded as gift cards to be used at winning group/persons discretion.  In addition to the monetary prize, winning playwrights will have an opportunity to have their play performed by schools and civic theatre troupes throughout South Carolina!  This competition is open to all South Carolina public, private, charter and home school students.    Download the entry form  (pdf)

Litter Curriculum
PalmettoPride, in partnership with the Department of Education, recognized the role education could play in eradicating the state’s litter problem. The response was to develop Keeping South Carolina Clean and Beautiful a curriculum resource for grades K-12 that would increase the awareness of the problem, while providing students with ways to be part of the solution. All lessons meet the current SCDOE curriculum standards. Download the curriculum (pdf)

PalmettoPride Promise Program
This program is aimed at elementary school students to raise awareness of the litter problem in South Carolina. After listening to a program given by Miss South Carolina highlighting some of the problems and solutions regarding litter, students sign a promise card to assist in the effort to keep South Carolina litter free. Upon signing the promise, students then receive a bracelet to serve as a continuous reminder of this pledge to ensure the students’ commitment to the eradication of litter in South Carolina.

Collegiate Stadium Recycling
PalmettoPride and university athletic programs have developed a recycling program at stadiums dedicated to changing the behavior of sports fans. PalmettoPride purchases recycling bins to encourage recycling during events. Our goal is to be present at all universities and colleges reaching students as well as sports fans with the anti-litter message.
