What is it? Every spring, PalmettoPride and Keep South Carolina Beautiful coordinate the Great South Carolina Cleanup, a volunteer litter pickup program.
When is it? Annually, first day of spring to the first day of summer
Why should you do it? The Great South Carolina Cleanup is a fun, educational, outdoor, springtime activity. In addition to organizing a litter clean up, you can also take part in other green events of your choice. Organize a recycling drive, plant a garden or paint a mural – we can help you with supplies to get it done. If you want to clean up your neighborhood and then plant flowers in the median, you can do that too!
How to organize a cleanup: First, find your local affiliate here to sign up with a KSCB affiliate in your county. If there isn’t a KSCB affiliate near you, check out our events page for any local cleanups. It helps to start by going to cleanups that already organized so you can see how it works. PalmettoPride has also plenty of resources to help you plan your own cleanup.
How to get your supplies: Supplies are free to all groups participating in the GSCC. If you plan to join a cleanup, the event organizers will provide supplies unless they indicate otherwise. For your own events, request supplies through your local KSCB affiliate. If you don’t live near one or you are planning a large event, supplies can be picked up at PalmettoPride’s office in Columbia. Fill out the Cleanup Supply Request form and we will give you the right amount of supplies for the number of volunteers. You can also request t-shirts, brochures, pamphlets, giveaways — anything that can help with your event!
You can request t-shirts, gloves, grabbers, bags, vests, signs, and educational brochures and pamphlets. Keep in mind that this is the busiest time of year for PalmettoPride and KSCB affiliates, so be sure to request your supplies early to secure yours. In some cases, it can be easier and more convenient for your group to purchase its own supplies. PalmettoPride can suggest where to purchase supplies and appropriate quantities based on your group’s size.
