There are an estimated 800 million pieces of litter across South Carolina communities. Our communities spend millions every year addressing litter. In 2024, our volunteers generated $2,841,873 in cost avoidance by picking up trash. With help from our volunteers and your sponsorship, this figure can continue to grow and redirect more public funds to community improvements and economic development.

Employer giving program
Many businesses match employee donations to nonprofit organizations, like PalmettoPride, through an employee giving program. Some businesses also recognize staff that volunteer with nonprofits through grants supporting the agency’s mission. South Carolina Adopt-a-Highway
Since 1987, Adopt-A-Highway volunteers have been cleaning up litter along South Carolina highways. Litter has been reduced by 60% over the past 30 years. Unfortunately, there are still people who insist on littering. Our state and local governments do not have the resources available to clean up the litter on our roadways. Clean communities are safe communities. Clean communities are good for tourism and economic development. Clean communities are a source of pride for all of us who call South Carolina home.
When you adopt a highway, PalmettoPride partners with the South Carolina Department of Transportation to install a sign with your group’s name along your stretch of road. Only state-maintained roads are eligible to be adopted through the South Carolina Adopt-a-Highway program. Cleanups provide your group with good publicity, a team building experience, and the gift of giving back to your community by clearing its roadways. PalmettoPride provides support to ensure your group is safe, seamless, and successful in your cleanup efforts.
