Keep Walterboro Beautiful Joins KSCB Network

Walterboro Commits to Focus on Litter, Beautification, and Recycling

(Columbia, SC) – Keep South Carolina Beautiful (KSCB), the state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. (KAB), and a division of PalmettoPride, welcomes the City of Walterboro to its expanding community-based Network of Affiliates with the certification of KWB.

“We are proud to see Walterboro making litter, beautification, and recycling a priority,” stated Mallory Coffey, KSCB State Leader. “Becoming an affiliate is an extensive process, only undertaken by those who understand the commitment needed to create a cleaner, greener and more beautiful community for the future. They completed this process despite every hurdle thrown by COVID-19 restrictions, and we applaud all of their efforts.”

After more than a year of researching their community, KWB finalized their affiliate certification with an Advisory Board Training. During the training, board members, City of Walterboro staff, and many others learned how utilize KAB and KSCB resources to fulfill their mission.

Dana Cheney, Chair of Keep Walterboro Beautiful sees this affiliate, “as a force in helping solve the litter problem in our city and to assist citizens” in beautifying and cleaning their city. “We need to encourage homeowners, businesses, industries, and the general public to notice what they are doing. Keep Walterboro Beautiful can do this; we are ready to make our city proud. Remember, a clean city is a happy city.”

Tiffany H. Mays, an employee of the City of Walterboro will serve as the coordinator for KWB. Mays said, “We want to spread awareness and educate the community on how litter contributes to the destruction of the environment. We as a community can unite for a cause that helps everyone individually and as a whole.”

“The Keep Walterboro Beautiful Board, Tiffany as the coordinator for this affiliate, and the citizens within the community are really going to make a difference. Like Dana said, this is going to be a happy city, because it teaches the importance of having a clean city,” said Coffey.

PalmettoPride awarded KWB with the Keep South Carolina Beautiful Start-Up Grant. This competitive grant provided KWB with $5,000 for the development and certification costs associated with the affiliate process. KWB joins more than 30 local affiliates across South Carolina. In addition, KWB will join more than 600 KAB affiliates, including 26 state affiliates, and a number of international affiliates.
