Keep South Carolina Beautiful will kick off the annual Great American Cleanup of South Carolina on March 1, 2016. This statewide initiative encourages volunteers to plan events that help to remove litter and illegal dumpsites, improve parks, plant gardens, paint worn exteriors and build awareness to the negative impacts of litter in our communities.
KSCB presents many options to get involved. From working with one of the 25 local Keep America Beautiful affiliates, participating in the Great Trail Cleanup of South Carolina, starting a Clean Team or organizing a one-time cleanup event, KSCB will provide supplies and guidance to get volunteers outside and cleaning up.
Beautification projects also count for the GACSC. Whether working through a local affiliate, garden club or with a group of friends, KSCB wants to know what you will do and hear about your results after your event.
“Our ultimate goal is to prevent litter, not focus solely on cleaning it up,” said Sherryl Jenkins, State Leader for Keep South Carolina Beautiful, a division of PalmettoPride. “We also encourage beautification activities to help create communities that people want to keep clean, to not destroy by throwing trash on the ground.”
In 2015, 43,000 volunteers participated in GACSC activities. KSCB has guidelines and supplies for volunteers. Please visit www.palmettopride.org/get-involved to register today or call 877-725- 7733.
The Great American Cleanup of SC is a part Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup. Dubbed the nation’s largest cleanup event, the GAC engages more than 4 million volunteers and participants across the country to take action in their local communities to create positive change and lasting impact.
