2018- 2019 PalmettoPride Litter Prevention Grant Recipients Announced

Columbia, SC (January 2019) — PalmettoPride has awarded Litter Prevention Grants totaling $213,071.00 to 32 groups and organizations to assist with litter prevention efforts.
PalmettoPride grants are competitive and open to all litter control organizations, government departments, government organizations and non-profit organizations in South Carolina.
All grant recipients are also required to participate in a community cleanup such as the Great American Cleanup, Adopt-A-Highway or other planned litter pickup event in their community.
The Litter Prevention Grant awards up to $15,000 to aid with local cleanups and awareness campaigns, illegal dumpsite remediation and removal, litter control officer equipment, tarp campaigns, litter removal supplies, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Projects and lighting, as well as trash cans.
“Litter prevention needs to be tackled at the local level, and these grants provide funds to implement cohesive efforts of enforcement, awareness and pickup programs.” said Sarah Lyles, Executive Director of PalmettoPride. “We all must work together if we want to see real change in our state, with government leaders taking litter prevention seriously and citizens doing their part to help with prevention and pickup.”
PalmettoPride has also awarded 19 groups a total of 1,105 trees to be planted in public spaces. The Tree Grant has been a long-standing partnership with the South Carolina Department of Corrections. Beautification is a tactic of litter prevention and is beneficial to the environment as well.
