Litter Trashes Everyone Annual Art Contest Finalists Announced

Columbia, SC – Education a key component to litter prevention and is one of PalmettoPride’s four tenets of behavior change. One of PalmettoPride’s most popular educational programs, available to all South Carolina elementary schools, is the Litter Trashes Everyone Art Contest.
The art contest is an opportunity for students to learn about their environment and showcase their artistic talents. Each participating school submits one entry to represent the school and the entries are divided into four regions, Lowcountry, Midlands, Pee Dee and Upstate. The top five finalist represent the four regional winners and the state winner.
The 2019 finalists for the Litter Trashes Everyone Art Contest are Zakiya Williams from Springfield Elementary, Mizuki King from Riverwalk Academy, Tatianna Gause from Riverside Elementary, Ziyonna Darby from Sheridan Elementary and Aiden Peele from Gateway Elementary School.
These students, their families and their art teachers are invited to join the Lt. Governor Evette and PalmettoPride at the State House on Tuesday, April 9 at 1:30 p.m. where the Lt. Governor announced the state winner.
“Our children are our future, and they are also our greatest investment. Congratulations to these incredible students, who are not only sharing their creative talents with us, but who are also helping to raise awareness on the important issue of keeping South Carolina beautiful by reducing and preventing litter in our communities and across the Palmetto State,” said the Honorable Lt. Governor Pamela Evette.
Prizes for state and regional winners include monetary donations and framed artwork. The state winner’s art will also be featured on the back of PalmettoPride’s volunteer t-shirts for the following year. Each school winner will receive a framed copy of their art work to display at home or their school.
