PalmettoPride to Lead June CPTED Seminars

Columbia, SC – PalmettoPride will lead a free training on Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) along with Lancaster County and the Clemson University Police Department. This two-day course examines the relationship between our environmental cues in our physical surroundings and criminal activity.

Participants will learn ways to discourage undesirable behavior while encouraging appropriate activity using CPTED strategies through a combination of lectures, in-class exercises and a field assessment. This course includes:

• Clear explanations and examples of the four CPTED strategies of Territorial Reinforcement, Natural Access Control, Natural Surveillance and
• Techniques for implementing the strategies (i.e. Landscaping, Pavement Treatments, Architecture, Activity Support, Public Art, Lighting).
• Hands-on experience in applying the concepts via field study.
• Guidance in conducting a CPTED survey and completing a CPTED report.
• Resources and continued support as you implement CPTED strategies on your personal or business property and throughout the community.

Who should attend?  Planners, developers, property owners, business owners, law enforcement, architects, landscapers, community leaders, revitalization teams, homeowners and other interested members of the community. Law Enforcement Officers receive SC Criminal Justice Academy CLEE Credits; City Planners receive credit from SC Planning Education Advisory Committee.
