PalmettoPride Offers Free Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Training With Clemson University Police Department
Clemson, SC (February 2020)—PalmettoPride, South Carolina’s litter prevention organization, is providing a free Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) training to the community hosted by the Clemson University Police.
CPTED approaches crime prevention by first asking, “Why here? What about this location creates risk to people or results in opportunities for crime?” The answer can often be found in the structure and design of our surroundings. Learn how to discourage undesirable behavior and encourage appropriate activity using CPTED concepts. The training includes:
- Clear explanations and examples of the four CPTED strategies of Territorial Reinforcement, Natural Access Control, Natural Surveillance and
- Techniques for implementing the strategies (i.e. Landscaping, Pavement Treatments, Architecture, Activity Support, Public Art, Lighting)
- Hands-on experience in applying the concepts via field study.
- Guidance in conducting a CPTED survey and completing a CPTED report.
- Resources and continued support as you implement CPTED strategies on your personal or business property and throughout the community.
The CPTED training will be held February 25-26 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., located at 124 Ravenel Center Place, Seneca, SC. This training is open to all members of the community but seating is limited and reservations are required. If space is available, those unable to attend entire training may register for morning sessions only.
